Emergency Pre-planning
Important:
Don't wait to call for help when needed!
Be sure to take a certified first aid class.
Be sure to take a certified CPR/AED course.
Make sure your residence is clearly marked (house number) so that emergency personnel can find it easily.
Be sure to have Emergency numbers clearly posted by the phone even if you live in 911 service area you should also keep doctor's numbers, police, fire department and EMS agency numbers.
Have a list of all allergies & medications taken by the patient ready
Have a list of past medical history ready
For easy access, clear a path at least 2 feet wide from door to patient.
Make sure steps, railing and walkways are in good repair.
During winter, be sure snow and ice are free from walkways and steps.
Check the operation of smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors regularly.
Take a first aid and CPR/AED course.
Keep toxic household cleaners and all medications out of the reach of children.
